Animation is the rapid display of a
sequence of images of 2-D or 3-D artwork or model positions in order to create
an illusion of movement. It is an optical illusion of motion due to the
phenomenon of persistence of vision, and can be created and demonstrated in a
number of ways. The most common method of presenting animation is as a motion
picture or video program, although several other forms of presenting animation
also exist.
Animation can sometimes refer to a way of activating a community, i.e.
'animating' the users. This means actions which encourages users to interact
with a given service and is connected to moderation.

animated cartoons. While the site aims for comprehensiveness, it makes little or
no pretense of having a neutral point of view. Markstein is the sole writer and
editor of Toonopedia. Markstein, a collector of comics since childhood, is a
writer for Walt Disney comics, and has, thus far, focused his attentions on
American and other English language cartoons, with the goal of developing the
largest online resource on American cartoons. Toonopedia has accumulated over
1,400 articles since its start in 2000.

is a magazine specializing in animation, with reviews of animated films and
other articles of interest to animation fans. fps was founded as a print
magazine in 1991 by Emru Townsend. The last print issue was released in December
1999. fps is now a web based publication, featuring a blog, podcasts and PDF
issues of the magazine.

GaiaOnline
GaiaOnline is an anime-themed social
networking and forums-based website. Originally named "Go-Gaia.com ??-02", it
changed to gaiaonline.com on February 18, 2003 by Gaia Interactive. Gaia
originally began as an anime linklist and eventually got itself a small
community but after a statement by founder Derek Liu (username "Lanzer"), the
website moved towards social gaming. It eventually became the forum-based
website it is now. It has over a million posts made daily, over a billion posts
total, and over 2.5 million unique users each month. Gaia also won the 2007

Toon Zone (TZ for short and sometimes
referred to as Toonzone) is a web portal focusing on animation-oriented
journalism and discussion. The web portal, which is divided into news, forums,
and web hosting, was created under the guidance of Brian Cruz, Eileen Delgadillo,
and Colin Feder. Although Toon Zone's history dates back to 1994, when Devon
Thomas created the Warner Brothers Club forums, the current incarnation of the
site launched on August 24, 1998.

Michel Beaudet, has expressed surprise at the popularity of his site, and has
said it has reached a size he would never have dreamed of.

The World's Finest
The World's Finest website was created in
1998 to focus on DC's ever-expanding animated adaptations, including such shows
as Batman: The Animated Series and Superman: The Animated Series. The website is
often cited as the premiere online resource for information on DC cartoons,
specifically for the DCAU programs, and is a reputable source within the
industry. This website also first coined the term DCAU (a term which applies to
the shared continuity between a host of the DC cartoons) and is the most popular
animated DC-themed site online. The website contains exclusive news and content,
downloads, bios, reviews, guides, etc. It was initially created by James Harvey,
who still works on the site alongside Zach Demeter (aka "Bird Boy"). With the
DCAU, the animated DC universe the site was originally created to cover, now at
an end (for now), the site plans to still cover all upcoming DC Animated shows,
movies, and related content. The website is hosted by Toon Zone, but is not
considered a Toon Zone site.
